The J-Pouch Support Group

Posted on: 05/13/2010

The J-Pouch Support Group was originally founded by Rochester Colon-Rectal Surgeons, P.C. over 20 years ago as the "Parks Support Group". Sir Alan Guyatt Park(1920-1982) is credited with the first generally successful pouch surgery and, thus, we chose to honor his name for our surgery known as the Modified Parks Procedure. The name of our support group was changed over the recent years to keep current with the J-Pouch support groups throughout the U.S.

Our meeting format is typically informal, relaxed, and offered in a comfortable environment. The meeting locations change from time to time and we are always open to suggestions. We find that the main ingredient for the meetings is YOU! Various topics are discussed, as are helpful remedies, websites, books, personal experiences and stories, ideas, and even healthy recipes! The people who attend might be considering the surgery, may have had any stage of it, or even completed all the stages. Families, friends, significant others, and health care providers also attend and offer additional support. One or more of our providers are present to answer questions, as is some of our office staff. It is noteworthy that we consider all questions as valuable. If you review the comments from previous meetings, you will see how much is learned by all who attend, including us!

We look forward to seeing you at our meetings, which are typically offered twice a year. If you have questions regarding the meeting, please contact Barb Macey, MS, ANP-C at the Portland Avenue office, (585) 266-8401.
